Emptying the bins is part of the On Departure To-Do routine. Please ensure you are familiar with how to empty the bins if you attend the space regularly. We may go a week without anyone in the space so it is best to empty the bins on departure even if they are not full!

Members and visitors should routinely collect and dispose any obvious rubbish from their workspace. The main bins are located in the Waste and Recycling Centre which is conveniently located in the centre of the space.

In order for the bins to be taken out efficiently, please ensure you are sorting and seperating all waste. All waste must be placed into transparent plastic bags and those bags must be tied before taking out. The following items should be placed into the recycling:

• Aluminium cans

• Plastic bottles and their lids
• Clear plastic cups

• Paper (non-sensitive, not shredded)
• Cardboard (large boxes may be placed directly into the wheelie bin)

Glass is a special case that is handled seperately. The bins in the park do not accept glass. Please place glass bottles into the blue plastic crates. If you have time to run these to a supermarket to dump the glass bottles into a bin there then please do but do not take the crates away for an extended period.

• Intact glass bottles only

• Everything not covered above, which includes:
  • Cartons
  • Anything tainted by food waste (pizza takeaway boxes)
  • Anything tainted by chemical waste (empty bleach bottles)
  • Broken glass

The bins should be taken out to the bin enclosure where you will find one large wheelie bin for landfill and one large wheelie bin for recycling. Please ensure you stick to one waste stream per bag and that the bags are tied. All the recycling is mixed in the recycling wheelie bin, but the bags keep it seperated.

Do not take glass to these bins.

After you've taken the bins out, please ensure a fresh bin bag is placed into the bin ready for the next use.

The Shop Vac Micro has a maximum airflow of 50 CFM and a sealed pressure of 45 inches. Is the floor getting a bit dirty? Have you made a mess that is hard to clean up? The Shop Vac Micro may be exactly what you need!

It can be found under the dirty workshop bench along with spare bags. If the vacuum is beginning to lose suction it may need the bag replacing. Please feel empowered to do this yourself if you are confident, and you can refer to the user manual below for help. If you do not feel confident then please ask a fellow member or at least let the mailing list know that maintenance is required.
